The Kritikal Buzz with Dami B & DJ Xplizitsouljah- 12
DJ Xplizitsouljah: The alaga ibile reignites himself with the fans in this new visual. He brings with him this air of freshness in this video which is quite timely I'd say cos it shies away from the norm.
Dami B: This video is different. I liked the split screen element of it. It feels like I'm listening to a narrator (Reminisce) tell his story......
Though I may not understand everything he is saying but by the images I am still drawn in.
DJ Xplizitsouljah: That's why I said it breaks away from the norm. Different and witty too. I say that cos of the live show scenes where he's performing the same song to show that the fans are feeling him.
Dami B: Exactly, I always love videos that are almost documentary style, giving us a peek into the life of the artist with behind the scenes footage, live stage performances etc.
I thought the newbie Sojay brought something to the song.
DJ Xplizitsouljah: Sojay is one artist I'm looking forward to see eventually drop good materials cos I've been privileged to hear his music and dude can sing. His voice always has girls lost in cloud nine.
Dami B: He definitely brought the vocals, as I said, the song would have been slightly more boring for me without him coming in at the end.
And I guess Reminisce is the artist he is because this video depicted him doing just that. Reminding people where he started and confirming that he is here to continue his journey.
DJ Xplizitsouljah: I think I like how Sojay is an element of surprise as you aren't expecting to see him but he shows up just at the right time to give the needed juice to the song. I feel it's a healthy balance. My reservation as far as the video goes is that the video may have been a little too simple for reminisce as if there was some type of budget constraints.
Dami B: It's a short but decent video, and I agree with the 'simple' aspect, I would not necessarily go to search or watch this video again as it wasn't majorly exciting, but it is unusual, my only other issue would be that for those who don't speak/rap or understand Yoruba language, they may just switch off from the song......however Sojay saves it towards the end with his sultry vocal finish. All in all, for me, I rate this video a 7/10 due to the reasons stated above, however I believe it was recently Reminisce's birthday (26th January) so he dropped this video on a very special and meaningful day for him.
DJ Xplizitsouljah: I don't have an issue with the diction employed as that is the definitive style of the alaga ibile. He is known to be a constant code mixer. Hence I gift this video 7 out of 10 slaps (7/10). A very merry birthday in arrears to baba Hafusa.
Fresh Buzz- Dipp- Play Love
DJ Xplizitsouljah: Okay so I was quite excited to hear Dipp return to the boards and provide fresh music as my memory as at last call was that track with Yemi Alade.
Dami B: Hmmm, I too was very excited when I realised it was Dipp on the song 'Rock Your Body' with Yemi Alade... But I have to say, I'm not 100% impressed with this track/video. It's not a bad or terrible video, the visuals are crisp and the scenary is very nice, however it's not memorable or innovative or exciting..... Just another bedroom/shower video with a hot male artist, and good looking video girl grinding on each other.....concept has been over-done.
DJ Xplizitsouljah: I was sincerely put off by the song and the video was somewhat not jumping for me. Maybe i was expecting too much from Dipp. That's it probably.
Dami B: I did like the steaminess of the video, it was kinda hot in some scenes... And the girl is definetly sexy so kudos to Dipp for his good taste in video models, she looks like a mix of Black and Asian to me, with very thick thighs and cute bum which she paraded around in the video......LOL!
DJ Xplizitsouljah: I couldn't concentrate on the whole video as it is, the song kept throwing me off and with regards to steaminess, I was kinda expecting that so I wasn't surprised by it and I think the models name is Sutra.
Dami B: It does seem like Dipp prefers to release songs around the Valentines period, in order to get us all in the mood for lurrrve! haha
DJ Xplizitsouljah: The video is definitely high standard no doubt but as regards screenplay I was lost on that. Plus the music wasn't particularly tickling my fancy so I will shave off a few points and gift the video 6 of 10 slaps (6/10).
Dami B: All in all I also rate this video as 6/10, I respect Dipp for being one of few Nigerian artists refusing to conform to the 'in' style of music. However, I would forget this video quickly. I would love to see Dipp and Banky W collaborate on a song and video in the near future. It would be a massive hit!
DJ Xplizitsouljah: Probably it's the hiatus that's got me expecting too much from Dipp and I also hope he does more music consistently than before.
