Police parade suspected killers of ex-Edo LG chairman

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspected herdsmen in connection with the assassination of the immediate past Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area of the state, Suleiman Afegbua. Listed as suspects were one Mustapha Ramat and one Adamu , Bayero, also known as Dantaraba.
The late Afegbua was on March 15, 2017 ambushed and killed on his way to Benin along the Benin-Auchi Expressway while two others who were with him in a convoy, Musa Taibu and Jubril Abdul, were reportedly whisked away by the assailants. Irked by the development, Governor Godwin Obaseki had directed the police to fish out the perpetrators of the act. Obaseki had also vowed that the culprits would be made to face the wrath of the law. The Commissioner of Police, Haliru Gwandu, while parading the suspects in Benin on Tuesday, said investigation revealed that the hoodlums were Fulani herdsmen. Gwandu disclosed that one Elder Musa Afegbua who had earlier been abducted was rescued and taken to a hospital for treatment. He also stated that the suspects were arrested by tactical teams, including operatives from the anti-kidnapping and anti-cultism units, during a search for the abducted victims. The CP said, “The above suspects are helping the police and the other killers will soon be arrested and the two kidnapped victims released. “Meanwhile, I have deployed tactical teams in collaboration with village vigilantes in the community to use hi-tech to track all received phone numbers being used to demand ransom.” Gwandu further noted that the police command had adopted proactive and community policing strategies to check the rate of crime across the 18 local government areas of the state.
