LAGOS JAZZ SERIES : A LETTER FROM THE FOUNDER

Last year's event without doubt was without doubt a turning point in the life of the Jazz Series. This third event has set the bar in terms of the quality of we must continue to bring to our audience. Making this possible for us are our sponsors without whom we could not have had such a fantastic event. I want to say a very big thank you to Etisalat, CBO Capital, Diamond Bank, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Promasidor, Kaizen Venture Partners, Classic FM, Beat FM, Naija FM, BusinessDay, McPherson Barristers and Solicitors, Reinvent Design Studios, Porsche, Hillside Gardens, Federal Palace Hotel & Casino, and Oriental Hotel.  Thank you so very much. After three years of bringing the world of jazz to Lagosians, the pathway to making Lagos a destination city has fully come to view. Lagos Jazz Series was featured on the Inside Africa program on CNN for several weeks and is now poised to draw a much larger international audience than before. Global recognition of the series means that we will be pulling out all the stops in 2013 and beyond That we can have a week long music festival in Lagos no longer the question – the question instead is where, what venue to have these events. We have, over the years had music concerts in the most unusual venues such as the garden at Sofitel Hotel, Federal Palace Hotel and the Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island. However, as we garner international recognition, we are quick to see the inadequacy of some of these spaces and the need for an acoustically correct venue – a proper entertainment centre with all the trimmings – as can be had in spaces like the in London and Lincoln Center in New York.   When the idea of a jazz/music festival in Lagos first came to my mind, I knew that we would run into challenges – given that we do not have proper infrastructure to support a full scale entertainment experience as do cities like Montreal, Montreax and New Orleans etc, but I was confident that once we got to that moment, we shall rise up to the task. Well folks, that moment is now. Lagos needs a proper musical and entertainment centre with all the bells and whistles. Regardless, we once more invite you, our guests, partners and sponsors to join us as we continue to make history.   Warmest regards, Oti_Sgn01 Oti Bazunu | FOUNDER
