AgroStartups: Statefarm Foods introduces clean healthy eating by Cynthia Lawrence

The Nigerian startup community continues to strive to break boundaries in little monumental ways via investment opportunities. Joining the burgeoning organic food industry is Statesfarm Foods, an agro startup committed to finding cost efficient food options for the conscious. Just last week, the brand introduced me to its new line of food product; x wheat flour. Not necessarily a new mix but one that’s packed with a lot of health benefits and unconventional recipes. Inspired by his aunt who is prone to diabetes, The CEO of Statesfarm; Chisom Emenike ponders on why he ventured into his new product. “Growing up I’d watch my aunt dry and grind unripe plantain and mix with wheat to make her infamous “swallow” because she had to really keep an eye on her diet. A little research later I discovered this was a well sort after flour in the local market, so I decided to make it easily accessible and well packaged for a wider consumer base.” Chisom Emenike A graduate from the American University of Nigeria, Emenike is a millennial entrepreneur leveraging on participation marketing: reaching out to local chefs to create alternative recipes for plantain and wheat flour. Commonly used as higher fiber replacement option for “Swallow”, a popular reference to Nigerian soup dish’s compliment options: Eba, Semovita, amala, pounded yam etc. Targeting the chefs as market entrance, Emenike hopes that they’ll be able to create more recipes for the plantain and wheat flour that’ll encourage consumers to try it. Enlisting a chef at a recent trial experience, the flour was used to create alternate base options. Used as a sauce thickener for what will now be known as The Statesfarm Original sauce and as substitute for wraps and bread sticks aka flour sticks.
